When entering the website, you may have already seen Lotty, the brown alpaca (or you can click here to see her now)?
Lotty Potty has a British birth certificate, but her ancestors originated in South America. For some 12-15 years Alpacas have been kept in the UK and now there are over 12000 in residence.
In Britain alpacas are only kept to produce fibre, unlike South America, where their meat is also used for food.
Some people say to us 'when you look at them (the alpacas), you just don’t realise how soft they are'! Any yes, we have to agree - there is almost no other fibre that is as soft on your hand as alpaca, its classed in the same category as cashmere.
