The Alpaca fibre is appreciated for its superior qualities by fashion designers around the world. The finest Italian suits are made of fine, light Alpaca which is exceptionally soft and non-itchy to the skin. The alpaca’s soft 'handle' (as its called in breeding terms) is because of the smooth surface of the alpaca hair.
Why is Alpaca so light?
The lightness of the Alpaca coat is caused by the hollow characteristic of the fibre. But it not only feels lighter, the hollow characteristic gives the fibre isolation & thermal qualities - some people write it is anything between 3 and 7 times warmer than sheep wool.
